Events Committee At-Large Rep Application (Deadline – May 20th, 2019)

Join our committee and help organize amazing events for SFU undergraduate students!

The SFSS Events Committee acts as a liaison between student groups and SFU representatives. It also provides assistance to the Board of Directors, Clubs, Student Unions and internal departments in all event planning matters, including developing risk assessment plans, budget considerations and logistics.

This person will be in charge of all marketing strategies behind every event that the committee produces. This position would be working closely with our communications office, the Event Coordinator, and all Program Managers. The major project this year will be Kickoff.

Necessary skills/experience:

  • 1-2 years of previous marketing experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Time management and organization skills

This person will be in charge of all internal activities that happen within the Events committee. This would mostly be supporting the Chair and stepping in if the Chair was absent. They will be organizing meetings, socials, taking meeting minutes if assistants are unavailable, provide general support to the team, etc. This person will work closely with the Chair and Event Coordinator.

  • Strong communication skills
  • Time management and organization skills
  • Ability to take meeting minutes

This person will be in charge of all external activities that happen within the Events committee. This would mostly be obtaining sponsorships from other organizations (ie. reaching out to KIND for granola bars to hand out during Munchie Mondays) and manage partnerships with other organizations (ie. Warner Bros competition for free movie tickets in exchange for movie posters promotions). This position would work closely with all Program Managers. The major project this year will be Kickoff.

This person will be in charge of events that happen 1-2 a month for the whole year. Events include Munchie Mondays (starting September) that will happen bi-weekly and the monthly pub nights. The VP Student Life is open to expanding this portfolio.

These people will be in charge of events that will happen once a month. This includes events such as a July Summer Picnic around the AQ and the Spooky Pumpkin Carving in October. This is a heavier portfolio so it will call for two PMs.

This person will be supporting at all levels of the Events Committee. No experience or skills are required – just need willingness to learn and support. This role is perfect for people who want to learn more about event planning and project management while getting involved with the SFSS and more importantly, the SFU community. The workload for this will be lighter than Executives or PMs.
