Extended Health and Dental Plan Committee

The Extended Health and Dental Plan Committee has two unique governing roles:

  • The Committee shall receive written appeals from members about Extended Health and Dental Plan membership, claims coverage and plan administration.
    • The Committee shall reply in writing to written complaints from the membership.
    • The Committee shall conduct hearings to address members' appeals. The meetings shall be closed when an individual member's coverage is under appeal. No public record shall be kept of the proceedings.
    • The Committee shall rule on appeals. All decisions made by the Committee that arise from the resolution of appeals and complaints shall be recorded for audit purposes in accordance with the requirements of privacy legislation.
    • The Committee Chair shall communicate the Committee's decisions to complainants in writing.
  • The Committee shall also be responsible for recommending an annual budget for the management, promotion or maintenance of the Extended Health and Dental Plan to the Finance and Administrative Services Committee, and for administering the Extended Health and Dental Plan Reserve Fund, as set out in the Health Plan department budget.
    • The Extended Health and Dental Plan Reserve Fund budget shall be reviewed twice a year, during the regular and revision budget processes.
    • The Committee may authorize expenditures from within the Extended Health and Dental Plan Reserve Fund budget.
    • All financial decisions made by the Committee shall be recorded for audit purposes in accordance with the requirements of privacy legislation.

Quorum:

Quorum shall be three voting members of the Committee excluding the resident/Chairperson.
