For those that are unaware, the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) logo has been used to promote an event, “Get a Grip 2018: Let God be True” (LGBT).

We want all of our most at-risk students to know that we stand with them, now and always. We will continue to work tirelessly to make our spaces, and our campus, safe for students of communities more affected by homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, racism, ableism, ageism and xenophobia on our campus. Let us take the time to highlight the voices of our most at-risk LGBTQ2IA+ friends, family, and siblings.

It is important for us to make it very clear to students that the SFSS, in no way, shape or form, endorse this event or the speakers attached to this event. We have a long and strong history of making this campus an inclusive community. We want to apologize for any undue hurt this has caused our students, community members, and alumni.

The SFSS has since met with the club involved, expressed our concerns, and informed them of the hurt they caused to the LGBTQ2IA+ community. They have confirmed that the posters have been removed and our logo will not be used in association with this event.

We know the actions of this club have caused pain and hurt in the community. This incident has caused us to reflect on our internal practices in respect to process of approving and revising material for groups affiliated with us.
