International Students Group

The International Students Group coordinates lobbying and advocacy initiatives on behalf of international students at SFU. SFU has a very geographically diverse international student population that faces a number of challenges at the University.

It is the intention of the University administration to set international student tuition fees at rates comparable to those at American universities. The result of these increases is that SFU will lose the valuable diversity that international students bring to the institution.

International students often face problems finding accommodations when they arrive in Canada. Many have never been to Canada before and have to find housing immediately; yet, international students have fourth priority in campus residence, after students from the Lower Mainland.

International students encounter many additional bureaucratic obstacles, such as difficulty in receiving medical services, applying for and renewing work or study visas, and filing income tax returns.
