Environmental Science Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. to provide a framework for communication between Environmental Science students,
2. to organize campus events, and to undertake projects and activities of interest to Environmental Science students.
3. to increase the profile and accessibility of the Environmental Science programs.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
1. all students in the Environmental Science undergraduate program and
2. students enrolled in Environmental Science/Resource and Environmental Management courses, including but not limited to REM 100 and EVSC 100.

Film Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
a. To represent the academic interests and welfare of its members to the Area of Film, and to the University.
b. To stimulate and promote interest in the study of Film and the facilities and affairs of the Film Area.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
a. All declared Majors, Minors, Concentrations, Honours, and Graduate Students in the Film program.
b. All students currently enrolled in at least one Area of Film course.

Fine and Performing Arts Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. To promote the fine and performing arts (FPA) within the University and the community.
2. To stimulate and promote interest in the practice and study of the fine and performing arts.
3. To promote artistic collaboration of artists and art scholars studying at SFU.
4. To establish an environment of trust. openness, and respect that encourages differences of opinion, individuality, development of ideas, questioning of authority, and conventions within a shared studio space and within the School for the Contemporary Arts.
5. To increase exposure and involvement with the SFU student community and local arts community.
6. To represent the academic interest and welfare of all FP A students within the School for the Contemporary Arts, the Faculty of Arts, and Simon Fraser University.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
a. Any student enrolled in an FPA class or is a declared FPA Minor.

First Nations Studies Student Union

1. To promote and represent students and their interests within the Department of First Nations Studies (FNS), the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), and Simon Fraser University (SFU).
2. To promote the welfare and interests of First Nations Studies students to the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS).
3. To stimulate interest and further learning of First Nations Studies.
4. To respect all views and opinions of the members of the FNSSU.
5. To undertake initiatives and activities to benefit the members of the FNSSU.
6. The FNSSU is constituted as the Departmental Student Union as defined in the Administrative Policies of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS).

French Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. to celebrate and promote awareness of the French language and diverse francophone cultures around the world; and
2. to advocate for students’ interests in the French Department at SFU.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
All minors, majors and honours students in the French Department as well as to all students currently enrolled in French courses at SFU. Other students who are interested in participating in FSU activities are welcome as non-voting members.

Gender, Sexuality and Women Studies Student Union

Objectives:

1. Provide an environment centred around our values, which include: pro-feminist, sex-positive, anti-racist, non-ableist, and LGBTQIA2+ inclusive

2. Support marginalized and underrepresented members of the SFU and greater communities

3. Participate in fundraisers, protests, and community events to support other students and organizations in projects and activism inside and outside of campus

4. Provide social activities for GSWS students and opportunities for interaction with faculty members

5. Support GSWS students in their academic pursuits (e.g. conference funding, departmental feedback, course-related inquiries)

Geography Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
a. To promote and respect student interests within the Program/Department and the University.
b. To provide academic, social, and recreational activities for the membership.
c. To undertake projects and activities to benefit the members.
d. To undertake such initiatives as the members may from time-to-time decide.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
a. Declared Majors
b. Declared Minors
c. Honours Students
d. Graduate Students
e. Any student enrolled in a certificate program offered by the department
f. Any students currently enrolled in courses offered by the Program/Department.

Gerontology Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. To identify and promote the academic, intellectual, and career concerns of Undergraduate and Post Baccalaureate Diploma Program students in the Department of Gerontology.
2. To provide academic, social, and recreational activities for the membership.
3. To undertake additional activities as decided collectively by the membership.
4. The aims and objectives of the Student Union shall be consistent with those of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) Constitution and Policies.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
Automatic membership in the Student Union is extended to all undergraduate students enrolled in the Gerontology Minor Program, students enrolled in the Post Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Gerontology, and students enrolled in any undergraduate Gerontology course in any given semester.

Health Science Undergraduate Student Union

To promote and represent the interests of undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and to provide opportunities for personal and professional development.

To fulfill this mission, we shall endeavour to:

1. Advocate for undergraduate student issues at the faculty and university level.

2. Maintain communication with and provide information regarding the activities of the Simon Fraser Student Society, other student unions and clubs, the Faculty and other University organizations.

3. Offer resources and organize activities of educational, social, recreational and career/professional value for the membership.

4. To undertake projects which reflect objective(s) and/or interests of members.

Automatic membership in the Student Union shall be extended to all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences who qualify as:

1. Majors
2. Minors
3. Honours

Including all students enrolled in Health Sciences (HSCI) courses in the current semester.

History Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
To promote the interests of history students, to allow students greater access to the faculty decision-making process, to provide a metaphorical vehicle for student participation in broader university issues, and to facilitate student interaction.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
1. All declared Majors, Joint Majors, Extended Minors, Minors, or Honours in the Department of History that are in good standing with the Simon Fraser Student Society;
2. All students of Simon Fraser University (SFU) currently enrolled in at least one Department of History course that are in good standing with the Simon Fraser Student Society.
3. All students of Simon Fraser University (SFU) with the intention of declaring a Major, Joint Major, Extended Minor, Minor or Honours in the Department of History

Humanities Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. To represent the academic interests and welfare of its members to the Department of Humanities and to the University.
2. To stimulate and promote interest in the study of the Humanities and the facilities and affairs of the Humanities Department.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
1. All declared Humanities Minor students and students registered in the post Baccalaureate Diploma Program in Humanities, and
2. All students who are currently enrolled in at least on Humanities Department course.

Interactive Arts and Technology Student Union (IATSU)

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. Advocates for students of the School of Interactive Arts & Technology
2. Presents the needs and concerns of SIAT and SFU Surrey students to the SFU Surrey administration, SFSS, and other powers
3. Organizes academic and social events at SFU Surrey
4. Promote the SIAT name and the work of its students and much more!

International Student Group

Objectives of the group shall be:
1. to protect and promote the rights of the International Students
2. to represent and advocate for the interests of all international students
3. to coordinate and promote international student activities
4. to work towards support of international students in Simon Fraser University
5. to promote and work towards the enhancement of services for International Students
6. to contribute the unique cultural values and backgrounds of International Students to the campus community at large.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
1. All students self-identifying as international student (unless the Executive rejects based on insufficient evidence to support their claim, which can be appealed through SFSS).

Associate membership shall be extended to:
1. Others than those listed above, such as staff, faculty, alumni or community members. If any restrictions are to be placed on these associate members, they must be noted, and must first be approved by the executive. Decision could be appealed through SFSS.
2. Membership expires when the person is no longer an SFU student or no longer self identifies as international student.
3. A member may be expelled from the group by a vote of at least 2/3 of quorum of fifty (50) members. The duration of the penalty must be determined before the expulsion vote is conducted. An expelled member has the right to appeal, and may rejoin the ISG if 2/3 of quorum of fifty (50) vote permit this.

International Studies Student Association (ISSA)

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. To promote activities that foster learning in areas of academic study relevant to international relations such as human rights, international law, peace and security issues, economic and environmental development, governance and civil society and cultural and area studies in terms of their relevance in an global context.
2. To provide an organization to represent the academic welfare and interests of its members, both those enrolled in the School for International Studies (henceforth referred to as the “School”), those within different University Departments and within the University Community as a whole who share interests with the ISSA.
3. To promote and represent student interests within the International Studies program.
4. To undertake projects and activities to benefit the members.
5. To undertake such initiatives as the members decide.
6. The aims and objectives of the Union shall be consistent with those of the Simon Fraser Student Society

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
1. Automatic membership in the Student Union shall be extended to all students registered in International Studies classes or in the Major, Minor, or Honours program, or in the graduate program.
2. No individual membership fees or levies pertaining to membership shall be assessed or collected at any time, including those charged by organisations external to the Simon Fraser Student Society to which the Union may be associated.

Labour Studies Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. To seek to promote student interests within the Department of Labour Studies at Simon Fraser University and Simon Fraser Student Society.
2. To provide an organized body through which students may actively participate in university affairs.
3. To provide a vehicle for Labour Studies students to interact with:
a. the SFU Labour Studies Centre, and labour organizations in the community for the purposes of learning and practical experience, and
b. to promote labour issues, workers’ rights and working class consciousness.
4. LSSU is constituted as a Departmental Student Union as defined in the Administrative Policies of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS).

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
a. All students in the Certificate Program of the Morgan Centre for Labour Studies.
b. All declared Minors in Labour Studies.
c. All students who are currently enrolled in one or more courses offered by the Centre.

Honourary membership shall be extended to:
a. Any student who has and interest in the field of Labour Studies but who is not enrolled in Labour Studies courses or a declared minor in the discipline, with the approval of a majority of members at a general meeting.
b. Honourary members shall have the right to participate actively in the student union, but shall not have voting privileges, and may not hold steering committee or representative positions.

Latin American Studies Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
a) To promote student interest within the Latin American Studies program, the SFSS, the University, and the community.
b) To promote interest in Latin America among students and in the community.
c) To promote ties between the Latin American Studies program and the Latin community in Vancouver.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
a) All minors, majors, and joint majors in the Latin American Studies program.
b) All students who are currently enrolled in one or more courses in the LAS program or in related interdisciplinary courses, all students interested in the area of LAS.

Linguistics Student Union

Objectives of the union shall be:
1. To promote and represent students’ interests within the Linguistics Department.
2. To provide social and recreational activities for the membership.
3. To undertake projects and activities to benefit the members.

Automatic membership shall be extended to:
1. All declared majors, minors, and honours students in the department; and
2. All students who are currently enrolled in one or more courses offered by the department.
