Here’s what your SFSS Board of Directors has been up to during the month of August:
The SFSS Board of Directors has had a fulfilling August in the last month of Summer. We met new and returning students at the SFU Welcome Day, planned events for fall, worked on researching new services to improve the student experience and academic well being, and participated in a myriad of activities to make the Society known across the province!
Our Board of Directors warmly welcomed new and returning students with SFSS swag, cotton candy, freezies, and mini-donuts at both the Surrey and Burnaby campus. In addition, Fall Kickoff tickets were given out to a few lucky students during our raffle giveaway. Welcome Day ended with an outdoor movie night where students enjoyed Spiderman with free popcorn!
Our Vice Presidents attended the 4-day Student Union Development Summit at UBC, that gathers leaders of student unions from across Canada to share ideas, challenges, and best practices for a student-focused organization. This brought much insight into our organization where student unions across the country shared their experiences.
Our Arts and Social Sciences Rep (Jennifer Chou) was busy at the FASS Fest Button-making Party as well as the FASS Mentorship Ice Cream Social where everyone enjoyed Rocky Point ice cream!
Lastly, our VP University Relations (Shina Kaur) and Health Sciences Rep (Osob Mohamed) visited with BCIT’s Student Union as well as UBC AMS to learn more about their student advocacy office to build the groundwork for our own potential student advocate. We also followed up with the Douglas Student Union following the BCFS and SUDS conference to discuss possibilities of collaboration in future events and campaigns.
We hope you enjoyed all these events and activities and support in the advocacy efforts. Good luck to all in the new fall semester and we look forward to seeing you at Clubs Day and Fall Kickoff 2019!
