At Out on Campus, we are committed to resisting all forms of discrimination and oppression, as well as celebrating the wide diversity of communities that LGBATQ+ folks represent.
Out on Campus is advised by a Collective, staffed by the Coordinator and Resource Assistant, and thrives thanks to our dedicated volunteers! All folks, regardless of how they identify, are welcome and we have lots of ways to get involved. Check our volunteer teams below, and don’t forget to sign up for our upcoming Volunteer Training Days.
Not sure if you want to be a part of one of our volunteer teams? If you are passionate about an activity or an important issue, let us know and we’ll work with you to develop that idea into a reality! Our Out on Campus lounge and resource area can be made available to you for meeting space and discussion groups.
Check out our Mission, Vision and Values to find out more about us!
If you’re a returning volunteer or have questions about volunteering or trainings please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Only have a half-hour to spare between classes? Come give us a hand with our ad-hoc volunteering in which you can help with things like: folding consent toolboxes, preparing handout materials, or making buttons for Clubs Days! These will vary, so keep an eye on the volunteer newsletter for more information.
Do you like planning events and gatherings? Do you want to provide more social opportunities for LGBATQ+ students and allies to mix and mingle? Do you want to create an educational program to inform the community about a queer-related issue? Then this is the team for you! Together as a team, these volunteers will host a variety of events such as mixers, movie nights, discussion groups and workshops, or trips around Vancouver. We have opportunities at all levels of an event – from event planning, to event hosting, to simply attending the event – so, let us know what interests you and we’ll help facilitate!
Want to help Out on Campus connect with students on campus, and represent us at events like Orientation and Clubs Days? Want to become the face for the Centre around SFU and in the community? Then become an Outreach Worker today! By volunteering at our tabling events or other campus engagement events you will be sharing valuable information about what OOC does, which allows us to be “out on campus”! This is also a great opportunity to improve on your presentation and facilitation skills while sharing your already many skills and expertise!
Love to hang out in our comfy cozy space? Become a lounge care assistant to ensure the space remains open and welcoming for all visitors. If you would like to keep an eye on the space while you study, or do a little extra tidying once or twice a week, let us know. This team will also be in charge of maintaining our library! With over 2000 unique queer-related resources, we’ll need volunteers to make sure our books and materials are always looking good for visitors. We would also love to hear your suggestions for new materials!
We are looking for passionate queer folks and allies who spend a majority of their time at SFU’s Surrey and Harbour Centre campuses. Because we do not have dedicated queer spaces in Surrey or downtown, we need folks to lend a helping hand putting up posters, hosting small events, and representing us at Clubs Days booths!
