February 26, 2021

On February 16th 2021, the SFSS President Osob Mohamed and VP External Relations Samad Raza met with Minister of Advanced Education Skills and Training, Anne Kang and MLA for Burnaby-Lougheed, Katrina Chen to discuss the following topics:

  • Increasing Post-secondary institution (PSI) operating grants to relieve the burden of tuition from students.
  • Provincially mandated 2% cap on international tuition fee increases per year.
  • Advocating for the collection of race-based and socio-demographic data from PSIs at the Provincial level.
  • Advocating for resources to implement anti-racist education at PSIs.

We are glad to see that the Minister is interested in developing strategy around international students, funding anti-racism programs and working with students during a review of the current PSI funding system. The SFSS will continue to push for the financial wellbeing of our members and for affordable and accessible education for all.
