Definition of Full-Time Student and Part-Time Student

  • “Part-Time Student” means a student at Simon Fraser University taking three (3). or fewer course hours per semester.
  • “Full-Time Student” means any undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University other than a Part-Time Student.

[1] Build SFU levy approved via student referendum March 2012 as follows:

  • Effective January 1, 2019: $60.00 for full time and $30.00 for part time
  • The levy will increase by $10.00 for full time and $5.00 for part time on January 1 of each following year until 2022, at which point it will capped and adjusted annually for inflation according to the Canadian Consumer Price Index (CPI).

[2] Student Refugee – WUSC increase passed via referendum during most recent SFSS election in March 2020.

[3] Universal Transit Pass U-Pass fee increase that was passed via referendum last year comes into effect May 1, 2020 ($42.50 per month for all students through April 30, 2021). However, the Board decided to temporarily suspend U-Pass fees on a month-to-month basis due to COVID-19 also starting May 1. The details of the suspension haven’t been worked out with TransLink/SFSS/SFU.

[4] Undergraduate Student Health and Dental Plan

  • Students will only be assessed Health Plan and Dental Plan fees once per calendar year according to the first term attended.
  • Students beginning in Summer term may enroll themselves during the term’s Change-of-Coverage Period through the health plan
