Last semester, the Simon Fraser Student Society signed onto a letter by the #DontForgetStudents movement, calling for the federal government to offer fair support for the millions of Canadian students being disadvantaged by the lack of appropriate financial aid being offered through CESB (which international students are still not eligible to receive), rather than the $2000 being offered to other Canadians through CERB.

We are joining in on the renewed calls for the Federal government to:

  • Extend the CESB by three eligibility periods and increase monthly CESB support to $2000.
  • Expand CESB eligibility to all international students.
  • Expand CESB eligibility to all Fall 2019 graduates who graduated on, or after, September 1, 2019.
  • Work with provincial and territorial governments to provide significant tuition relief to students who are living in a decimated job market, and who should not be expected nor responsible for the full cost of post-secondary education.

We encourage our membership to sign onto the petition and push for equitable outcomes for our students, and students across the country.
