December 2021 was another busy month for the SFSS Council. The Community Fridge in the SUB finally opened, SFSS Council approved funding for the Stormhacks hackathon, food packages for students on SFU Residence were delivered, and donations for those affected by the BC Floods were delivered.

Full summary of what happened in December 2021 below:

  • The SFSS council had a lot of programming and community efforts that launched or continued amidst the holiday season. The SFSS opened officially the community fridge, approved large grants for the winter semester to come for StormHacks and SUS Frosh event as well as support flood donations and food packages for Students on SFU Residence and Housing
    • Dec. 1st, Programming: Community Fridge Officially Opens
      • The SUB community fridge is located on the bottom floor of the SUB, where students can take or leave any food for free.
    • Dec. 1st, Programming: Council Approved $20,000 Club Grant to Support Stormhacks 2022
    • Dec. 1st, Programming: Council Approved $10,000 Student Union Grant to Support SUS Spring 2022 Frosh Event
    • Dec. 15th, Programming: Flood Donations Delivered 
    • Instituted a Food Packages for Students on Residence
  • Operations and Policy support was pivotal for the month of December as Council approved purchases to support the SUB Multi-faith space and the SASS and SUSS common rooms. In addition, there was a policy suspension to continue the work of supporting flood victims in  
    • Dec. 1st, Operations: Council Approved $15,000 to Renovate the SUB Multi-Faith Prayer Space
    • Dec. 1st, Operations: Council Approves $65,000 to Purchase Furnishings for SUS and SASS’s SUB Common Room
    • Dec. 1st, Policy: Council Suspends Policy to Allow Student Unions and Constituency Groups to Donate Funds to Support Flood Victims

SFSS Council was very elated to close off a calendar year ensuring the community is served and served well. From the Club grants for an amazing event at StormHacks or the SUS Frosh event. The SFSS was happy to wish everyone happy holidays and sign off for the month of December!
