Whereas, the SFSS creates SFSS Issues Policies on a variety of stances on social, economic, and political issues that impact our membership;

Whereas, it is typical for student societies to employ Issues Policies to establish stances;

Whereas on May 19th, 2021, the SFSS Council voted unanimously to condemn the State of Israel’s Colonisation of Palestine and struck a working group called the Free Palestine working group to formulate a statement and issues policy on behalf of the council;

Whereas on June 10th, 2021 the SFSS released a statement recommended by the Free Palestine Working Group entitled “SFSS Statement on the Israeli Colonisation of Palestine” discussing the SFSS’s solidarity with the Palestinian people in condemnation of the Israeli State’s settler-colonial advancement, human rights violations, and war crimes against Palestinians;

Whereas the SFSS Free Palestine Working Group and other groups in solidarity endorse the drafted Palestinian Liberation Issues Policy, namely, SFU Student for Justice in Palestine (SJP), UBC Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR), the Palestinian Youth Movement Vancouver (PYM), BDS Vancouver – Coast Salish, SFU Arab Student Association (ASA), SFU Migrants Students United (MSU), SFU International Student Advocates (ISA) SFU First Nations, Métis & Inuit Student Association (FNMISA), SFU Students of Caribbean & African Ancestry (SOCA), SFU Disability and Neurodiversity Alliance (DNA), The Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group (SFPIRG), SFU Radical Individual’s for Solidarity and Equity (RISE), SFU International Studies Student Association (ISSA), SFU 350, Anti-Racism Coalition Vancouver (ARC) and The Caucus, among many others;

Be it resolved that the SFSS Council amend the SFSS Issues Policies to add the drafted Palestine Liberation Issues Policy titled “IP-10: Palestinian Liberation” as attached.
