The Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) has been working on improving the granting process to make the application process easier, more fair and accessible for everyone.

The Society Staff and Granting Reform Committee have been working hard to establish a working granting guidelines document to improve the process for Clubs and SUs. A few items outlined in the guidelines are as follows: granting process, limitations for grants, criteria used to approve grants, and some rationale behind decisions. The SFSS recognizes that you, the members, are an exceptionally diverse group. You all have different needs and aspirations. We want to provide you with support as well as provide an opportunity to take a leadership role in achieving this mission.

This is a living document that will be changed to meet the needs of students and continue to support the many great initiatives that add value to the lives of students. The guidelines have been drafted and are almost ready to be adopted by the society. So, we need your feedback to finalize the guidelines before they are approved by the SFSS Board of Directors and adopted. All student feedback will be considered before the granting guidelines are approved.

Due to inopportune timelines, the Granting Reform Committee was unable to successfully synchronize Council meetings with the feedback phase. Therefore, we are opening up in-person consultations for you to discuss the guidelines with us and offer feedback. The consultation sessions for Council Representatives and Student Unions are as follows:

  • August 10, 11 AM – 1 PM (Forum Chambers, Maggie Benston Centre)
  • August 15, 2:30 – 4:30 PM (Forum Chambers, Maggie Benston Centre)

We would prefer it if you are able to attend the sessions allocated specifically for your group; however you are still welcome to attend the consultation sessions for Clubs and Constituency Groups. These sessions are as follows:

  • August 11, 4 PM – 6 PM (Forum Chambers, Maggie Benston Centre)
  • August 18, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM (Forum Chambers, Maggie Benston Centre)

The deadline to provide the feedback is 11:59 PM on August 18th.
