The Student Union Building is temporarily operating at reduced capacity with seating set for physical distancing to help maintain student and staff safety around COVID-19.

Here is what it means for in-person services and occupancy in the Student Union Building (SUB):

  1. Seating on levels 1000, 4000, and 5000 are limited to individual study. *We ask that members not move furniture and not sit where furniture is marked with a yellow, blue or red “X”. Furniture should remain as set. These areas are reserved for those most comfortable maintaining physical distance at all times while studying. Staff will be moving through the SUB throughout the day ensuring that the space remains as it was set.
  2. Seating on levels 2000 and 3000 has been set to allow for pair or small group work while also maintaining some individual seating. These levels provide space for those comfortable working within small groups and allows for socializing within those small groups. **We ask that members not move furniture and not sit where furniture is marked with a yellow, blue or red “X”. Staff will be moving through the SUB throughout the day ensuring that the furniture configuration remains as set.
  3. Mask/face coverings are mandatory. Everyone entering the building is required to keep their masks/face covering on at all times when moving though the SUB and while seated. The exception is when eating meals, where masks may be removed and put back on promptly upon finishing. When snacking and drinking, masks must be on between bites and sips. Staff will be moving around the SUB throughout the day to ensure masks/face coverings are being worn.
  4. Attempt to maintain physical distancing from other students when in the SUB.
  5. If someone has their mask off within the SUB, please avoid confrontation. Instead, kindly inform a member of staff at the front desk to assist with the enforcement of the mask mandate.
  6. We encourage the use of hand sanitizers that have been placed throughout the building.
  7. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  8. If wearing a mask/face covering, try to cough and sneeze into it; changing it immediately with a clean mask/face covering when you have the opportunity to do so. If not wearing a mask, try to sneeze and/or cough into your elbow. Masks are available at the front desk if needed.
  9. Above all, please monitor your health daily. Avoid visiting the Student Union Building (SUB) if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, headache, shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, tiredness among others.

We understand that we live in unprecedented times however, in order to keep the space open and accessible to all, let’s help protect each other by abiding by these guidelines.
