Trigger Warning: Residential School, Colonialism, Intergenerational Trauma, Genocide, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Colonialism

The Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) wholeheartedly acknowledges that the student union and Simon Fraser University (SFU) are located on the Unceded Traditional Territories of the Coast Salish People(s), including the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ ̓ əm (Kwikwetlem) and q̓icə̓y̓(Katzie) Nations. Unceded means that these territories have never been handed over, sold or given up by these nations, and we are currently situated on occupied territories. These nations have been here since time immemorial and have continued to stand against the genocide and the forced assimilation that continues to harm Indigenous Community Members.

On June 30th, 2021, The Simon Fraser Student Society Council passed two important motions regarding 1) Indian Residential School Survivors and Commitments to Reconciliation and 2) the Idle No More #CancelCanadaDay Campaign.

With the passage of these motions, we continue to stand in solidarity with Indigenous People(s). We recognize their resilience and excellence within our communities and hope to continuously advocate alongside them.
