March 2, 2021

The SFSS Board continued to work on important initiatives through the month of February. The first board meeting occurred on the 12th of February. A motion was raised and passed regarding the StudentCare agreement. StudentCare and the Executive Committee negotiated a new two-year agreement with the option of extending it by another two years. A motion was raised and passed regarding Video Conferencing Equipment for the SUB. Since COVID-19 vaccines are beginning to roll out in BC and thus it is expected a limited amount of in-person activities to resume by the end of 2021. Therefore, to make the SFSS meeting more open and transparent, the board approved $24,650.25 for the installation of video conferencing equipment into SUB rooms 3331, 2440 and 2420. One of the discussion items was regarding an ablution room. Multi-faith Centre and Muslim Student Association provided feedback to SFSS Accessibility Committee regarding an ablution room in the SUB. Having an ablution room in the SUB would be central and closer, and better for many students.

The board met again on February 26th. A motion was raised and passed regarding Black History Month (SFSS to celebrate Black History Month in long term). Board Members spoke in support of this motion, emphasizing the SFSS support for marginalized students in the future.

Our Accessibility Advisory Committee is working on important initiatives including, Accessibility Designated Assistant, Psycho-educational Assessments, setting up bursary using the fund, accessibility audit for the SUB, improving accessibility fund request form Accessibility Standard Policy Appendices, SUB gender-neutral washrooms and Accessibility Issues Policy. The Events Committee is working on the Mental Health Monday giveaway, trivia week and SFSS Women of the Year Awards.
