Volunteers are the life blood of Out on Campus. Without volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to effectively promote Out on Campus, engage with seldom-heard communities, or organize events year-round!
Volunteering with us will also be greatly beneficial for you:
- Learning and developing skills: Immersing yourself in the LGBTQ+ communities will develop your ability to deal with diverse groups of people, improve your awareness of intersectionality, control your emotional reactions in stressful situations, improve your organizational skills, and learn important leadership skills as you become a stronger voice in your community (Mercier, Harold, Johnson, & Pond, 2016).
- Co-curricular record: If you contribute at least 5 volunteering hours a month to Out on Campus, your volunteering work will be recognized on your co-curricular record. You can use this to support your applications for jobs and further education.
- Collective membership: Long-standing volunteers (i.e., at least 3 months of consistent volunteering) are eligible to join the Out on Campus collective. The Out on Campus collective is currently being developed with a view to being in place by Spring 2019.
- Reference letters: At their discretion, the Coordinator may write long-standing volunteers a reference detailing the activities they have been involved with, your positive conduct while volunteering, and your constructive relationship with the Coordinator and others you deal with while volunteering.
