Jul. 30, 2015 — Burnaby, BC — Beginning in the fall of 2015, the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) will be doubling Build SFU bursaries to increase assistance to undergraduate students in financial need.

“Our student-led Board of Directors has taken a proactive approach to easing the burden of fees on students who can least afford them,” explained Enoch Weng, the SFSS President.  “Build SFU is an important part of our strategy to address student concerns, namely lack of student spaces and need for community building, but we also wish to balance those with the abilities of students to financially contribute to the project”.

The bursary has been in place since 2013, when the SFSS Board of Directors recommended the usage of the SFU-administered bursary system to provide assistance for students in paying the Build SFU levy.

“Bursaries distributed through the SFU Financial Aid & Awards office are a very effective method of supporting those undergraduate students who face financial challenges”, added Weng.
