June 1, 2021

At the April 30th, 2021 meeting of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) Board of Directors, the Board unanimously approved the 5-year extension of the agreement with Fraser International College. This agreement gives FIC students access to clubs, room booking support, our Food Bank, and other services.

It is important for FIC students, who come from across the globe, to feel connected to our SFU campus community.

The extended agreement will see FIC students continue to contribute funds to the SFSS in exchange for key services and support, including the following:

  • Participating in new and existing SFSS clubs
  • Developing new FIC clubs
  • Assistance for planning events, booking rooms, securing equipment
  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Access to the student union building and other SFSS spaces on SFU campuses
  • Access to grant funds
  • Access to the food bank service, free legal clinic, Women’s Centre, Out on Campus and other SFSS programs and services

While FIC students will receive access to these services and support, this does not make them full members with voting rights. However, with the addition of Associated Membership in the new bylaws passed on October 26th, 2020, there is now a path for them to become members in the future.

FIC students are a critical component of the SFU community. In this way, the SFSS is committed to constantly ensuring that FIC students are able to access services and support that the SFSS provides so that we can build a stronger, more inclusive community.

The SFSS is excited to see this agreement take effect, and that these services will be available to FIC students for at least the next five years.
