April 8, 2020

At the April 1st, 2020 Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) Board of Directors (BoD) meeting, the BoD passed a motion to contribute $150,000 to establish the Simon Fraser Student Society Emergency Assistance Fund.

This fund will provide support for SFU undergraduate students facing a sudden emergency situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic and have exhausted all other possible resources and for whom such financial hardship would affect their ability to attend and complete their program of study.

The disbursement of these funds will be split equally between domestic and international students, and the fund will be administered through SFU Financial Aid and Awards (to be used in conjunction with SFU’s existing funding).

To be eligible to receive funding, the student is required to meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be a registered SFU undergraduate student enrolled in classes (full-time, part-time) at the time of application
  2. Must be in good standing with the University, (i.e. academic honesty, student conduct; note: these are unrelated to GPA);
  3. Must be faced with a sudden emergency situation;
  4. Must have exhausted all other resources; and
  5. Must have communicated with a member of the Financial Aid and Awards office and provided a completed application.

Students are only eligible to receive resources from this emergency fund once during their academic career.
